SWA Mother Tongue Week.

We are celebrating Mother Tongue at SWA this week.  Mother Tongue is very important as it relates to learning in an International school setting. There will be performances in the Bamboo Court at lunchtime all week. We are focusing on presenting cultural items from the five continents and celebrations will conclude with a Food Fair & assembly on Friday.

Students are also participating in Mother Tongue week for instance, writing “Hello” in different languages on colored paper in the shape of a hand. The elementary students are dancing and singing for parents and the MS/HS students during lunch times in the Lotus lounge. Not only are students participating, but teachers are also participating in the Mother Tongue festival.

We invited special guests from Kalimantan to our school. They sold lots of knick-knacks that they made by themselves including beaded jewelery. Each day of the Mother Tongue week, we learn and celebrate each culture from all of SWA student/teacher’s countries, so that we know about each other’s cultural background. One of many reasons we celebrate this Mother Tongue week is to recognize the value of Mother Tongue and how important it is when we study in an International school. We as students enjoyed it so much and found out that it is really important to know our mother tongue language. The information about other countries, mother tongues and cultures is also important. That is why we can’t miss this whole beautiful Mother Tongue week because if we miss it, that means we missed a knowledge that is important for our generation.
